Premises Inspection

Membership of the National Funeral Directors Association of Australia requires members to maintain appropriate standards in relation to their premises and vehicles.

This online self-submission inspection form enables members to provide photographic evidence demonstrating compliance with these requirements for each premises.

Please ensure that:

  • The utmost respect for the families in your care is maintained at all times
  • No images of deceased persons are uploaded
  • Images submitted relate to a single premises only. Where multiple premises are to be submitted, a separate form must be completed for each address

The NFDA encourages peer review. This can be by fellow Funeral Director Members or Supplier members of our assocaition. If you are submitting this form on behalf of a fellow member, please ensure your position/relationship is noted in the form.

FUNERAL PREMISES

Does the premises being inspected have;

Suitable room for arranging funerals?
Deceased storage area/refrigeration?
Mortuary/Body Preparation area?
Public Toilets?

MORTUARY

With consideration to all specific Local Authority Regulations, does the mortuary being inspected have;

Equipment and facility for embalming?
Impervious flooring capable of being cleansed and drained into a sewerage system?
Adequate ventilation/air conditioning?
Vermin/insect proofing (flyscreens on windows etc)
Mortuary / Valuables register?
Contaminated/Clinical Waste disposal bins?
Do the utility connections to and from the premises conform to all local regulations? (back flow valves, waste water permits etc)

VEHICLES

Specific to the vehicles used within the business, and vehicle garage;

Is the vehicle garage adjacent to the mortuary?
Is the loading area located such that the loading and unloading of uncoffined bodies is screened from public view?
Does the hearse have a specialised clamping system for securing of coffins/caskets?
Does the transfer vehicle have a barrier between the driver and the deceased?
Is the rear compartment of the vehicle refrigerated/air conditioned?
Is the rear compartment of the transfer vehicle designed in a way that the deceased is not visible from outside of the vehicle? (tinted windows etc)
